Since September 2000, Peter has been a project Engineer with FSA Consulting. Peter’s work has focussed on odour modelling, composting, gaining approvals for intensive livestock industries, environmental impact assessment and environmental management and MEDLI modelling for sizing effluent treatment ponds and irrigation areas. Peter has also managed projects summarising the management and re-use of organic by-products in the feedlot, pig, dairy, poultry and mushroom industries. Issues considered include re-use options and impediments to sustainable re-use including pathogen content, heavy metal concentrations and other contaminants; practical and economic impediments; legislation and regulations; and lack of knowledge regarding re-use options.
From 1996 to 1999, Peter was Environmental Engineer, Intensive Livestock Environmental Services, Department of Primary Industries (DPI, Queensland). His main role was to manage odour research into intensive livestock industries in Queensland. He also acted as project officer on a pig housing and pig Artificial Insemination (AI) review, publishing two producer manuals and a report.
